Software-Support Planner: Download a Device Register and Migration Checklist

Downloads / Resource 03 / Version 1.0

Support planning often fails at the handover: the replacement arrives, but one app, file library or recovery route still depends on the old device. This original TechReviewz workbook connects a device register to a practical acceptance checklist, with space to record the official policy you used.

Software-Support and Migration Planner

XLSX. Two worksheets: Device register and Migration tasks. Up to 10 device records, editable planning date, per-device buffers and 12 acceptance tasks for the first registered device.

Enter the policy you can identify.

For each device, record the exact model, region or owner, official policy source URL and confirmed security-support end date. Distinguish security maintenance from major operating-system upgrades. The workbook does not fetch or verify dates, so an entered date should come from a source you can revisit.

If the manufacturer states only a month or year, choose a conservative planning date and record the uncertainty. Do not restart a support clock at the day you bought a used device. Read the manufacturer policy for the precise model and region.

Choose a buffer that fits the work.

Change the planning date when you review the register. The workbook calculates remaining calendar days and subtracts your chosen migration buffer from the entered support-end date. A 30-day buffer is provided as an editable starting value, not an additional security-coverage period.

Illustrative inputValue
Confirmed support end27 October 2027
Chosen buffer30 calendar days
Migration target27 September 2027

The hypothetical dates explain the subtraction. They are not a deadline for any particular product. The register can flag that a target or entered support date has passed; it does not assess the device’s installed updates or present security.

Make the first row your active migration.

Migration tasks follows row 12, the first device in the register. Put the device you are actively moving there. The target date links into the task schedule, and each due date is target minus the editable number of days before it. Choose a longer lead time where your work, carrier or organization requires it.

The 12 tasks cover inventory, recovery routes, backup coverage, restoration checks, replacement compatibility, work or carrier requirements, transfer, authentication, essential functions, a normal-day test, unresolved items and final acceptance.

Verify outcomes before retiring the source.

Use Not started, In progress, Verified or N/A. Explain N/A in the evidence field. Marking one task Verified reduces the remaining count by one; other required tasks stay visible. An app icon appearing on the replacement does not establish that its local data or account access have moved.

Keep passwords, recovery codes and authentication exports outside the checklist. If required files or access remain unresolved, preserve the source and revise the plan before destructive steps. The 30-day phone migration guide explains the workflow, and the backup acceptance guide covers restoration checks. Report a workbook issue with the sheet name, cell reference and non-sensitive example.
